MSMHS Graduates will ensure sustainability and equity for themselves, their communities, and the environment by:
Magnet Standard 1:
Designing and implementing solutions to complex social and environmental problems.
- thoughtfully questioning issues, systems, and problems in marine and other environments
- engaging with a variety of resources to identify and analyze relevant, reliable evidence through meaningful engagement
- reading closely, with attention to big ideas and to details
- thinking flexibly, creatively, and strategically to create sustainable solutions that make a positive impact
- collaborating with peers and stakeholders to co-create solutions to real world problems
Magnet Standard 2:
Communicating about and advocating for themselves, their community and the environment.
- speaking and writing clearly and meaningfully to educate, persuade, and effect change
- understanding diverse contexts and audiences and responding in a rhetorically appropriate way
- listening actively and openly to understand diverse perspectives
- advocating for the self and others with empathy and compassion using various types of media (e.g. written, oral, and artistic, etc.)
Magnet Standard 3:
Engaging with the community to lead environmental and social change.
- maintaining awareness of the assets and challenges that shape communities
- applying knowledge and skills to positively impact their communities
- advocating responsibly and acting with integrity and conviction
- modeling kindness, inclusion, and respect for all
- interacting with local officials and organizations to enhance learning outcomes

Directing their own learning for a sustainable future.
- positively persisting through challenges and viewing them as opportunities for growth
- taking risks that enhance their experience and that of others
- accepting and providing feedback and seeking support to improve work quality
- cultivating curiosity, exploration, and wonder to follow passions and interests
