Clubs and Organizations
At Marine Science Magnet High School, we believe in fostering a vibrant community where students can explore their passions beyond the classroom. Each year, we develop clubs and organizations in response to student interest, ensuring that every student has an opportunity to get involved.
How It Works:
Clubs meet on average one a week during Shark Block, with faculty members serving as advisors. During this time student have the unique opportunity to explore their passions with clubs and organizations developed each year based on student interest. Whether you're into the environment, music, video games, leadership, or teamwork, there's a club for everyone!
Some of our exciting clubs include:
- Environmental Club
- Video Game Club
- Interact Club
- Rock Band
- Unity Club
- Yearbook Club
- Chess Club
- National Honor Society
Interested in starting a new club? It's easy! Students can create a new club by gathering signatures from at least five peers who are committed to participating, securing a faculty advisor, and submitting a written description of the club (including meeting times) to the Principal for approval.
Note: Students may be removed from clubs and activities due to disciplinary or academic reasons.
Class Officer Elections
Each class at MSMHS has the opportunity to elect leaders in four important positions:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Communications Manager
Election Process:
- These positions are elected for a one-year term, and any student can run for an officer role within their class.
- Candidates must prepare a speech (up to 2 minutes long) to be delivered during a designated class meeting.
- Elections are held during a school lunch block where each class votes for their officers.
- Students elected as Class Vice Presidents automatically serve on the Student Council for that year.
- Class officers will regularly meet with their class advisors to discuss class activities and fundraising efforts.
Social Activity Code of Conduct
At MSMHS, we value student participation in both academics and co-curricular activities, which are designed to enhance personal growth and complement the academic program. Participation in co-curricular activities is a privilege, and students who represent MSMHS are expected to behave in a manner that reflects positively on our school community.
Key Expectations for Social Activities:
Students must adhere to school rules at all MSMHS-sponsored events.
Students must attend school on the day of an event to participate. For Saturday events, students must have attended school on the preceding Friday.
In extenuating circumstances, the Principal may approve an attendance waiver.
Behavior Matters:
Inappropriate behavior at any event can result in exclusion from future activities. As MSMHS, we believe that by upholding these expectations, we help our students build strong character and a sense of responsibility.
