Athletics
Athletics at Marine Science Magnet High School (MSMHS)
While MSMHS does not offer interscholastic sports directly, students still have the opportunity to engage in athletics through their home school district.
Participation in Interscholastic Sports:
- MSMHS students are permitted to participate on sports teams in their home school district under the guidelines set by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC).
- To participate, students must meet the eligibility requirements of both the CIAC and their home district.
- MSMHS works closely with home districts by providing academic, attendance, and behavioral records as requested to ensure students meet eligibility standards.
In addition, MSMHS may offer non-CIAC athletic opportunities, including club teams, to provide students with other options for physical and teamwork within the school.
NCAA College Athletic Eligibility
For students interested in playing Division I or Division II sports at the college level, meeting the academic eligibility requirements established by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is crucial.
How to Become Eligible:
Students must meet specific academic criteria related to their high school coursework.
To learn more, students should visit the NCAA Eligibility Center and consult with their school counselor for guidance.
Interested students are encouraged to register online with the NCAA by the September of their senior year to ensure they are on track for eligibility.
MSMHS is committed to supporting student-athletes in achieving their academic and athletic goals, whether in high school or beyond.
